Presentation
The Responsories of Holy Saturday (Sicut ovis) by the Neapolitan composer David Perez (1711-1778) have been composed in an unknown date, but probably during the period of his activities in Portugal, from 1752 on. The work is transmitted by 23 sources, copies from the tradition, produced during 140 years, demonstrating its positive reception. The majority of those sources can be found in Portuguese archives and libraries, but two of them can be found in Brazil.
This book presents the critical edition of Responsories of Holy Saturday and a study of the textual problems ocurred in the process of its transmission. It also includes an anlysis of the work, with the purpose of understanding its stylistic insertion in the sacred music of the 18th. century.
