Presentation

The antiphon Salve Regina (MIG 40) has been composed in 1787 by José Joaquim Emerico Lobo de Mesquita (1745?-1805), during his period as composer and organist in Arraial do Tejuco, now Diamantina, in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The existent editions, analyses and recordings of the work demonstrate its positive reception by the Brazilian and international musicological and artistic community. However, studies on the reception of this work and on the Brazilian colonial repertoire in general have not been dealt with.

This book has as purpose the study of the reception of the antiphon Salve Regina, highlighting three aspects:

Firstly, the comparative analysis of three editions of the work, resulting from the process of the reception of editors departing from the manuscript autograph source. At this stage I will also present my own critical edition of the work.

Secondly, the comparative analysis of two analyses of the work, resulting from the process of the reception of scholars departing from the graphic or sound object used and from their strategies in the creation of the resulting written / discursive object. At this stage my own analysis will be set against the other ones.

Finally, the analysis of nine selected recordings, resulting from the process of the reception of performers departing from the graphic object used and from their strategies in the creation of the resulting sound objects.
